A little history ...
The Race Meet has historical roots dating from 1967 when the Pony Express Relay Horse Race competitors met the Voyageurs at the North Saskatchewan River after 12 miles of riding and racing. They raced from the hamlet of Alder Flats with one rider racing four mile lengths on each of three horses to what is locally known as the Air Strip. All of our horse races are now held on the 3/8 mile race track at the rodeo grounds.
